Home Maintenance Tips – January 2023

An Article Created by the Quaresma Realty Group

As the winter months settle in, we all tend to spend more time inside. Now is a great time to tackle maintenance inside your home. Taking time this month to organize and plan is a great way to start the new year feeling ready and refreshed. Here are our top home maintenance tips for January 2023.

Holiday declutter

January is often an excellent time for a reset and refresh, and decluttering your home is a great way to start the year on the right foot. Holiday decor, old clothes, and knick-knacks have a way of accumulating during the holidays, so getting organized in January can be a huge help. What better time than at the start of a new year to clear the clutter and reduce stress?

Test carbon monoxide and smoke detectors

Test your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and replaces batteries if needed. You should check them at least once a month to be sure they are working, and change the batteries at least every six months. Doing so at the beginning of each year and then again in July will make it easy to remember. Replace carbon monoxide detectors every five to seven years and smoke detectors every ten years.

Schedule a ‘fix-it’ weekend

Set aside one weekend this month to tackle minor repairs around the home. Before getting your hands dirty, go from room to room and make note of things that need fixing (e.g., cracked switch plates, burned-out bulbs, loose screws, and squeaky hinges that need lubrication). Once you have an idea of what needs a little TLC, make a list of the materials and tools you’ll need. Shop for what you don’t already have, then get to fixing!
