✓ If it’s been a while since you’ve replaced your furnace filter, it’s probably time to do so now. How often you need to change your filter depends on a variety of factors. Things to consider are the type and thickness of the filter, the size of your home, air quality, the season, occupancy, and pets. Check the filter each month if you are unsure of how often it should be changed. If it is gray and covered in dust and debris, it’s time for a replacement. You should change it more frequently if you have children at home or someone in the household has allergies.
✓ Shovel after each snowfall. Keep walkways and driveways free of ice for your safety and the safety of others. Don’t forget the salt!
✓ Ensure exterior vents and exhaust pipes for the dryer, furnace, and fireplace are clear of snow and ice to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
✓ Ensure window wells are clear of snow. Wipe any excess condensation on windows, windowsills, and doors to prevent water damage.
